Itinerary
Arrival in Tirana International Airport. Private transfer to the hotel. Tirana combines culture, history, contemporary architecture and lots of hospitality towards tourists. Guided tour of Tirana, walking by the main boulevard and by the main buildings of the city: the Pyramid building, The Opera House, The National Library, Governmental buildings, the new Bazaar and the pedestrian area near the ruins of Tirana Castle. Entrance to Bunk'Art 2 museum to learn more about communist history. Welcome dinner in Tirana in a local restaurant.
After breakfast we proceed to Kruja, the historical city which lays on a panoramic view on the top of a hill. With a combination of nature, history, archeology, traditional food and lifestyle, Kruja is one of the most beautiful tourist spots in Albania. Kruja is notable from its stony streets and traditional buildings. We visit the Castle, the citadel of the National hero, Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg. After the castle, we visit the Bazaar, a one street of shops, wooden buildings and a mixture if cafes, small souvenirs and antiques. In the afternoon, we drive towards the Monastery of Ardenica, an Eastern Orthodox monastery. After the visit, we arrive in the coastal city of Vlora, where we enjoy the evening by the seaside promenade. Dinner and overnight in Vlora.
After breakfast we depart for the coastal city of Saranda. Drive on the spectacular Albanian Riviera looking down at the Ionian Sea. We stop in Llogara National Park to enjoy the view and degustation of a special local product - Yogurt with honey and walnuts. We continue to Saranda, passing through the small coastal villages of Dhermi and Himara. Arriving in Saranda, we start the guided tour of Butrint. We visit the ancient city of Butrint, an UNESCO world heritage site. It is an important discovery in the Mediterranean, rich in ancient sites. Dinner at the Lekuresi Castle or by the sea. Overnight in Saranda.
After breakfast we depart to spend the day visiting the UNESCO town of Gjirokasta, including the castle which offers a spectacular view of the city from above. We visit the ethnographic museum, which is the birth house of the ex-dictator Enver Hoxha. We also visit the narrow streets of the old bazaar. Afterwards we proceed to another UNESCO town - Berat, the pride of the Albanian antiquity and architecture. Berat forms a wonderful combination of eastern and western cultures, costumes and traditions. The architecture of the old houses, with large windows overlooking the town, is the first thing to impress the visitors. First we stop at the citadel. It can be reached by a steep road that is still inhabited. Inside we visit the iconographic museum Onufri. with paintings from the 16th century, from the famous orthodox painter of that period, Onufri. Dinner and overnight in Berat.
After breakfast, free time in the city. Transfer to the airport for the return flight.
